Ben Ridge > The kids in Tonga were great, always happy, never acting up. We almost never saw a kid crying or behaving badly, it was bizarre when we took notice of that fact. I don't know what they feed them, but they should export it.
Ben Ridge > After much searching, we managed to find a glass of wine at a resort beside the beach.
Ben Ridge > Marie, from Captain Cook Bungalows, was super friendly and helpful. She was always doing some chore or another.
Ben Ridge > Life on the outer islands is pretty bare-bones. This is a photo of Marie and her helper Paulie, who took care of one of the bungalows we stayed at. Here they are gathering pipis (those small shellfish that dig in the sand). Everything had to be done by hand, including gathering coconuts, drawing water, cooking, cleaning, feeding the pigs and chickens, etc. They had a constant set of many chores, yet they were happy to do it.
Ben Ridge > Welcome to the Kingdom of Tonga, with crystal clear waters and an easy-going, non-touristy environment. However, just because its easy-going doesn't mean its easy... keep reading to see.
Ben Ridge > Lots of relaxing in hammocks for Heather.
Ben Ridge > Tonga had some of the easiest acccess to snorkeling locations of any place I'd been. Lots of fish, some decent coral, and a few extras like sting rays, moray eels, and large clams.
