We met Steve in Lake Taupo, and then kept randomly running into him all along the North Island. We had the same ferry across to the South Island, and then he went clockwise along the island while we went counter clockwise. Sure enough, we ran into him in the tiny town of Haast, as he was headed north and we were headed south. They say it's not all that uncommon but it sure seemed pretty bizarre to us!
